This week Science Friday talks with Kate Ascher, author of the new book “The Heights: Anatomy of a Skyscraper.” This is a true coffee table book–big and beautiful, with lots of interesting graphics. Page through it for some tidbits to spice up your holiday party small talk. (Did you know the sway of some tall buildings can be enough to induce motion sickness?) Or spend a couple hours reading and pass yourself off as a structural engineer. To see a slideshow of images from “The Heights,” click below.

I have always been fascinated by skyscrapers and was really looking forward to the program. It seemed that the author while having done a lot of research for her book was not really an expert on the subject architectural /scientific wise.
i was excited when i heard the topic, but i thought the author’s answers left a lot to be desired. i would have preferred more in-depth answers.
The images and explanations were OK – right on – for my level of knowledge! (I’m a retired teacher/musician.) Fascinating stuff.
wow ! I never realized. Thanks.
What about Gill and White?
