Because Science Is Forever
by Annette Heist
Science writer Carl Zimmer is back on the show this week, to talk about his new book Science Ink: Tattoos of the Science Obsessed (Sterling, 2011). While he doesn’t have any tattoos himself (or any plans to get one) Zimmer says he became an unintentional “curator of tattoos” after noticing a double helix on a friend’s arm. He asked his blog readers to submit shots of their own science-themed tattoos; the photos and stories flooded in, and a book was born.
Looking to make a life long commitment to science on your skin? Check out some images from the book (below) for some inspiration, or perhaps some reasons to reconsider. (Hey, laser tattoo removal is expensive!) And tune in this Friday to hear more from Zimmer about tattooing and the tatts included in the book.
The views expressed are those of the author and are not necessarily those of Science Friday.
