Why You Shouldn't Stare Directly at the Sun

by Leslie Taylor

Video by Science Friday

In this video, Science Friday's Flora Lichtman talks with Thomas Baer, executive director of the Stanford Photonics Research Center, about how to calculate the solar intensity created when concentrating the sun's rays using a magnifying glass. They explain how a magnifying glass can be used to start a fire and why it's dangerous to stare directly at the sun.
