Glowing Millipedes

by Flora Lichtman

SciFri listener Chris Lavin sent me an email a few weeks ago with the subject line "Really cool video of centipedes at night." Who could pass that up? I followed the link and was greeted by a bowlful of fluorescing blue millipedes.

They are actually millipedes, Chris and I found out after talking to entomologist and glowing-millipede expert Paul Marek of the University of Arizona. It's coming up this Friday on the video pick, along with where to find your own fluorescent creepy crawlies. Stay tuned!

Update: Check out the Science Friday Video featuring the glowing millipedes.
