Over the last 50 years, NASA has invited artists such as Norman Rockwell, Andy Warhol, and Annie Leibovitz to create work inspired by space exploration. A new exhibit at the National Air and Space Museum showcases that work and captures the funny, inspiring, and tragic moments of the last 50 years of spaceflight.

The NASA art program also commissions musical works. Just to point to one of many, Kronos Quartet’s Sun Rings mixes the sounds of space and classical music into a beautiful, eerie soundscape. This short clip is worth a listen:
