Young Inventors Soup Up a Wheelchair

by Leslie Taylor

Video by Science Friday

In this Science Friday video, Flora Lichtman visits Staten Island Technical High School to speak with the winners of the Time Warner Cable Inno/Vention Competition. The students -- Rebecca Kekelishvili, Thomas Stilwell, and Michelle Warchol -- with the mentorship of Steven Raile, designed the Comfort Control Wheelchair Seating System. Their invention makes a wheelchair more comfortable thanks to climate control, bacteria prevention, and pressure relief, as well as more maneuverable thanks to its Omni-Directional Drive Train.

The students will be on Science Friday today to speak with Flora about their invention.
