The Physics of Spider-Man: The Death of Gwen Stacy
by Leslie Taylor
What killed Spider-Man's girlfriend Gwen Stacy? In the infamous comic The Night Gwen Stacy Died, was it the fall from the George Washington bridge that killed her? Or was it whiplash from being caught by Spidey's web?
Just in time to get us prepped for next week's release of The Amazing Spider-Man, this Friday we'll be talking with physicist James Kakalios, author of The Physics of Superheroes, who discusses Gwen Stacy's death (and conservation of momentum) in this video, filmed at the CONvergence sci-fi and fantasy convention in 2006.
Check out another video where Kakalios talks about his experience as a science consultant for the film Watchmen. And listen to Ira's previous interviews with Kakalios.
The views expressed are those of the author and are not necessarily those of Science Friday.
