The Winner of the Transit of Venus Photo Contest
by Leslie Taylor
Enlarge slideshow to full screen to see uncropped images.
Thank you everyone who submitted a photo to our transit of Venus photo contest. You captured some stunning images!
The winner of the poll to determine the fans' favorite photo from among the 10 finalists is....The Transit of Venus 2012 and the Charlotte Genesee Lighthouse, Rochester, NY by Nic Minetor. (It is the first image in the slideshow above, which also features a couple of images that arrived too late to be included in the contest, but that seemed too cool not to share.)
Congratulations Nic! Your books, Andrea Wulf's Chasing Venus: The Race to Measure the Heavens and The Transits of Venus by William Sheehan and John Westfall, are on their way. Each of the 10 finalists will receive a Science Friday pocket protector signed by Ira. (If you are a finalist and have not yet done so, please e-mail your shipping address to photos@sciencefriday.com.)
Photographers, it is likely we'll have another photo contest in the coming months, so stay tuned. In the meantime, you can view the whole album of Transit of Venus photos here. And, in case you missed it, check out the winners of our Winter Nature Photo Contest held earlier this year.
The views expressed are those of the author and are not necessarily those of Science Friday.
