A few years ago, we changed our podcast format so that listeners had to download the full hour of a show, instead of being able to listen segment by segment. That change never really felt right, so we're going to switch back.
Starting with today's show, each of our segments will be available for download individually.
Listeners told us they wanted to listen to segments they found interesting and skip those they were less interested in. We heard those suggestions and we're making this change because of that. But we're also looking to a future where listeners can mix and match content and create custom playlists in new ways, letting each listener play the role of station manager. It seems that new tools get introduced all the time, and we want Science Friday to be flexible enough to not get left behind.
If you like listening to full hours, you can update your preferences in whatever podcast service you use to download all episodes. In iTunes, that can be found in “settings” under the podcasts menu. And you can always listen to segments here on our site, with an archive going back to 1997.
