Possibly the Best Math Movie You Haven’t Seen
by Annette Heist
If Twitter is good for anything (political flame-outs, grass-roots activism, and Kanye West insights aside) it might be the best place to learn about small-scale projects without giant PR budgets.
Case in point: This crossed my Twitter feed yesterday. (Thanks Jennifer Ouellette!)
Colors of Math is a documentary by Moscow-born, Berlin-based filmmaker Ekaterina Eremenko. Her Twitter-sized description of the film: "Math can be sensual." Sold.
There's just one problem: The film probably isn't coming soon to a theater near you, or me. Colors of Math premiered at the Moscow International Film Festival in June. Eremenko tells Science Friday that the film is "on the short list" for the 2012 International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, but it hasn't yet been accepted. She's also looking for an American distributor.
Hmm, I feel like Science Friday can help somehow. Check out the trailer below, then email me with your suggestions for Eremenko and I'll pass them on.
See you at the Oscars.
