Photo of the Day: The Wave

by Kaitlyn Gerber

"The Wave" is a famous sandstone rock formation located in Coyote Buttes, Arizona. The unique geologic shape was carved by wind and rain erosion approximately 190 million years ago, solidifying as the rock calcified into layers. Today, it remains a popular tourist destination, although hikers must be careful not to break the small ridges in the fragile sandstone.
