Icelandic musician Bjork has often been called “otherworldly.” Her latest creative project builds a whole new world of weird combining science, music, and technology. The songs on the album, Biophilia, draw inspiration from things like parasitic infections, Earth’s core, and cosmology. It’s also one of the first albums developed specifically for the iPad.

 

The songs will be released as a series of iPad apps, which include music videos, interactive games, and even academic papers. Two of the apps have just been released. The first is a “mother” app for the entire experience, with an introduction narrated by David Attenborough. He explains that “biophilia” means “the love for nature in all of her manifestations, from the tiniest organism to the Greatest Red Giant floating in the farthest realm of the universe.”
