The Sun As You've Never Seen It Before

NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) has been taking photos of our star continuously since February 2010. SDO is a satellite that orbits the Earth while constantly pointing at the sun. It captured this stunning ultraviolet photo during a massive solar eruption on August 1st. SDO is part of a larger initiative called Living With a Star (LSW), which aims to better understand solar activity and its effects on the Earth.
