> April 11, 1997 Fusion For decades, scientists have been trying to create energy the way the sun does, through nuclear fusion. If they succeed, the world could have an unending supply of energy, without the pitfalls of fossil fuels and nuclear fission. But funding cuts have taken their toll. Last week one of the world's leading fusion labs, the Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor at Princeton, was shut down, and the government seems to be losing interest in an international fusion project. Will fusion research continue? How viable is it as an energy source? What are the obstacles scientists still face? The future of fusion, in this hour of Science Friday. Guests: Eugene Mallove
