> April 18, 1997 Hour Two Grand Canyon Flooding When the Glen Canyon Dam became operational in 1963, it changed the flow of the Colorado River, eliminating spring floods that had roared through the region's canyon country for centuries. Last year the dam was opened, sending water through the Grand Canyon for one week. Now, scientists are studying the river to see whether the flood restored the river ecosystem.
