> June 25, 1999: Hour Two: James Burke and the Knowledge Web
If you've ever been secretly amazed by the many seemingly random connections between people, places, and events (or if you yearn for a more intellectual form of the game "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon") then we've got the show for you. | James Burke, an author and the host of the television series "Connections" and "The Day the Universe Changed," will be joining Ira to talk about the many intricate wendings and windings that join bits of history and that make up the basis for his latest book, "The Knowledge Web." In his book, Burke applies the web concept of hyperlinking to the printed page, and encourages readers to explore the book in their own way. He claims that there are at least 142 different ways to read the book, connecting different highways and byways of history. | | So if you've ever wondered how Einstein relates to opera or how champagne corks connect with wallpaper, tune in.... even if your dentist's brother-in-law isn't Ira's cousin's dog groomer.
