Hour Two: Math and Science on Stage and Screen

Math and science aren't just for textbooks anymore. "Hard" sciences have been crossing over into the realm of the arts quite a bit in recent months, making quite an impact on the theater world. "Copenhagen," which portrays Niels Bohr and Werner Heisenberg, won a Tony for best play. "Proof," which focuses on the relationships of a young mathematician, is set to open on Broadway next week.

Tom Stoppard's play "Arcadia" has been one of his greatest critical and popular successes -- and it contains long discourses on mathematics. On the silver screen, "Pi" and "Good Will Hunting" have both used mathematical themes.

There's even a musical in development about Fermat's Last Theorem.

On this hour of Science Friday, we'll talk about the move of math and science from the chalkboard to the footlights. Call in with your comments and questions at 1-800-989-8255.
