Hour Two: The Annual Birding Show
Kenn Kaufman's passion for birds began when he was six. At sixteen,
he dropped out of school to embark on an eighty thousand-mile voyage
in pursuit of birds. Join guest host Dan Keller on Science Friday as
he talks to bird guide author Kenn Kaufman.
We'll also check in on the progress of this year's Audubon Christmas
Bird count, an annual scientific event that has been taking place for
over a hundred years. It uses data that birdwatching volunteers across
the country have collected for ten days on either side of Christmas.
That data, compiled by the Audubon Society, is used to help identify
population trends caused by changes to birds' food, predators, or habitat.
And that's not all - tune in to this hour of Science Friday and find
out what NASA engineers are learning from studying flying geese.
Call in with your comments and questions at 1-800-989-8255, and share
your opinions online in our Listeners'
Lounge (registration
required).
