Hour One: Science and Technology Policy

What should be the top priorities of the Bush administration when it comes to science and technology?

Two months into the new administration, the position of the Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy (aka the President's science adviser) remains vacant. And yet issues in which scientific input might be appropriate, from the fate of stem cell research to the recent decision not to regulate carbon dioxide emissions, continue to press forward.

In this hour of Science Friday, we'll talk with three leaders in the field of science policy in the U.S -- the chair of the House Committee on Science, the head of the National Science Foundation, and the editor of the journal Science, about science and technology issues facing the nation. We'll take a look at budget battles, the balance between academia and industry, and the question of 'just what does the science advisor do, anyway?'

Call in with your thoughts and comments at 1-800-989-8255, and share your opinions online in our Listeners' Lounge (registration required)
