Hour One: Clinical Trials and Human Subjects

Earlier this year the government temporarily shut down research involving human subjects at Johns Hopkins. Last week, families of several Nigerian children filed suit against the company Pfizer, saying trials of an antibiotic were conducted unethically. On this hour of Science Friday, we'll take a look at clinical trials. How should they be conducted? Can they be conducted safely and ethically -- or is the system broken?
