Hour Two: Iowa City Remote: Rural Health
Once upon a time, every small town had a doctor that handled deliveries,
death, and everything in between. But these days, doctors, hospitals
and clinics tend to concentrate in urban areas -- and people in some
rural communities are lucky if they live within a day's drive of a doctor.
But people in rural communities face all the health concerns that people
in urban areas do, plus some extra ones.
In this hour, live from Iowa City, we'll take a look at health care
issues facing rural Americans. Are there differences in health care
needs from community to community? What options do people living in
rural areas without ready access to 'traditional' health care have?
