Hour One: AAAS Remote: Low-Dose Radiation

Everybody knows that exposure to high doses of radiation can be harmful -- even fatal. But the effects of lower doses of radiation are less clear. Evidence dealing with the health effects of low-dose radiation exposures, such as might be encountered in x-rays at the doctor's office, is not well defined.

Yet many people are concerned about unnecessary radiation exposures. In this hour of Science Friday, live from the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Boston, we'll talk about what IS known about the health effects of low-dose radiation. Plus, we'll look at ongoing research trying to find out more, and talk about the difficulties in developing public policies to govern low-dose radiation exposures.

Call in with your comments and questions at 1-800-989-8255, and share your opinions online in our Listeners' Lounge (registration required).
