Hour One: Ig Nobel Awards
It's the day after Thanksgiving, and that can only mean one thing
-- ridiculously crowded shopping malls. But for all you faithful Science
Friday listeners, you know that it's time for our annual broadcast
of this year's Ig Nobel Prize Ceremony ... recognizing science that
cannot - and should not - be reproduced.
As usual, the Annals of Improbable Research hosted the awards in
October on the Harvard University campus. The evening, with master
of ceremonies Marc Abrahams, featured Ignitaries, real Nobel Laureates,
and a surprise visit from the British Chief Scientific Officer, David
King.
We'll hear about a computer-based dog-to-human language translation
device and what belly button lint actually is. We'll even listen to
an opera honoring the achievements of scientific jargon. So, grab
a drumstick, sit back, and enjoy the twelfth first annual Ig Nobel
Awards Ceremony.
This is a pre-recorded show, so please don't call. Share your opinions
online in our Listeners' Lounge (registration required).
