Hour One: Flight Beyond Earth
This week, a crowd gathered on the dunes of Kill Devil Hills, North
Carolina, to watch amateur aviators attempt (unsuccessfully) to recreate
the Wright Brothers' historic flight. Among those making the trip
to North Carolina was President Bush. Some space exploration advocates
had hoped that the President would use the occasion to make a major
policy announcement regarding NASA and national priorities for space
exploration, possibly even to announce a return to the moon. However,
no such announcement was forthcoming.
In this hour, we'll talk about the goals of the national space program.
Where should we be headed -- and how should we get there? What can
we do from the comfort of the Earth, and what kinds of activities
would require a major space initiative? Call in with your questions
and comments at 1-800-989-8255 (2-3 Eastern), and share your opinions
online in our Listeners' Lounge (registration required).
