Hour One: Summer
Science : Food Safety, Fireflies
Happy Fourth of July! In this hour of Science Friday, we'll be tackling
some of the big questions involved with today's summertime holiday.
First, food safety. Is it safe to eat Aunt Tillie's potato salad at
the picnic today? And just how well done does that burger need to
be to prevent problems?
Then, for those of you just relaxing in solitude today, we'll look
at nature's own fireworks - fireflies, or lightning bugs. How do they
get their signature glow? And are they in danger of disappearing form
some parts of the country? Call in with your questions and comments
at 1-800-989-8255 (2-3 Eastern), and share your opinions online in
our Listeners' Lounge (registration required).
