2004: This hour, it's a a round-up of election news. First, we'll look at California's vote to fund stem cell research. The controversial Proposition 71 passed, 59 % to 41%, thus authorizing the state to establish a new state medical research institute and to issue $3 billion in bonds to provide funding for stem cell research. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger broke with the the policies of President Bush and with the Republican Party platform, campaigning heavily for the adoption of the measure. We'll talk about the effects that the rule might have on stem cell research in the state, and in the country as a whole. Then, we'll check in on the performance of the much-maligned electronic voting machines. How well did they perform in this election? Though some glitches were reported, the feared widespread failures and outages didn't seem to occur. However, critics of the machines say that there still needs to be improvement, including the addition of a verifiable paper audit trail for all electronic machines. We'll talk about it. Plus, is there a doctor in the House -- or the Senate? With health care issues said to be a significant challenge for the upcoming Congress, we'll take a look at the members of the legislature that have a background in medicine. Finally -- a guide to managing post-election stress, if you're one of the 48 percent whose candidate didn't win. Call in with your questions and comments at 1-800-989-8255 (2-3 Eastern).
