There is some debate about whether ethanol is actually more efficient than oil, given all the energy that is required to grow the crops and extract the ethanol. Dr. Daniel M. Kammen, Co-Director of the Berkeley Institute of the Environment at UC Berkeley, published a study examining this question in Science. (Read Press Release.) On February 3, 2006, Dr. Kammen spoke with Ira Flatow about the potential of ethanol. You can listen to Dr. Kammen talk about his findings by clicking on the buttons to the right.
