Pittsburgh Stem Cell Review
Late last year, Hwang Woo Suk, author of several landmark cloning and stem cell papers, was accused of scientific misconduct involving some of his publications. A panel at Seoul National University, where the research was conducted, accused the lead author of creating an 'intentional fabrication, and Hwang Woo Suk has since left that institution in disgrace.
NPR's Joe Palca describes the results released today of the University of Pittsburgh's investigation into the involvement of Gerald Schatten, a leading US stem cell researcher who co-authored some of the questionable papers. As Palca reports, the Pittsburgh panel found that Dr. Schatten did not commit scientific misconduct and was not involved in any falsification of data.
