For the first time, scientists are taking a census in of ocean life in the
Gulf of Maine. They have already found fifty percent more species than were
estimated to live there--we'll find out why. Plus, a new study shows that
marine reserves--where fishing is restricted--result in healthier coral
reefs and sustained fisheries. Could this approach revive declining fish
populations in the Northwest Atlantic?
In this hour, we'll count the fish, and talk about how to save them.Call in with your questions and comments at 1-800-989-8255 (2-3 Eastern). Teachers, find more information about using Science Friday as a classroom resource in the Kids' Connection.
