Employees for Environmental Responsibility: EPA Library
Once upon a time, computers didn't have screens or keyboards, and certainly wouldn't have been found on your desk. Join Ira in this hour of Science Friday for a conversation with Steve Wozniak, the computer cult icon who co-founded Apple Computer and helped start the personal computer revolution. They'll talk about hacks and pranks, the early days at Apple, and the present and future of technology.
Plus, the US Environmental Protection Agency plans to close the library at its Washington headquarters on October 1, with materials currently available to staff and the public being boxed up for possible later digitization. Leaked budget documents say that similar “deaccessioning procedures”may be on tap for regional libraries in Chicago, Dallas and Kansas City. We'll talk about the plan, and why some scientists and policymakers are questioning its wisdom. Call in with your questions and comments at 1-800-989-8255 (3-4 Eastern). Teachers, find more information about using Science Friday as a classroom resource in the Kids' Connection.
