NY Auto Show / Green Cars

The Chevy Volt concept car at the NY Auto Show.

The New York International Auto Show kicks off on Friday, showcasing autos from minicars to Hummers. How do green cars fit in the mix?

In this hour, we'll hear about GM's environmentally-friendly concept cars, including the Chevy Volt--a plug-in concept car that runs on electricity and gas or a gas/ethanol blend--and the Saab BioPower 100, which runs on pure ethanol. We'll also talk about the latest clean, green car technologies, including biodiesel, fuel cells, and the promise of plug-in hybrids.

Plus, the folks that brought us into space with the Ansari X Prize will award the Auto X Prize to a car that gets 100 miles per gallon.

Call in with your questions and comments at 1-800-989-8255 (3-4 Eastern). Teachers, find more information about using Science Friday as a classroom resource in the Kids' Connection.
