Thank you for asking about privacy on this web site. This page lists the kinds of information collected about visitors to sciencefriday.com and what it is used for.

We don't require any information from you in order to view the Science Friday Archives, find out about the show and our broadcast stations, get book information, or listen online. (You're welcome to tell us about yourself, though, if you're willing!) As with any web site, all "hits" to pages on our site are logged. However, we analyze this information only in group form, to tell us, for example, how many people viewed a certain page during a certain week. We do not track site visitors from page to page, or record the kinds of information specific visitors view on our site.

In order to get access to the Listener Lounge, a collection of message boards and mailing lists that will allow you to discuss the world of science and to learn about upcoming programs, we do require registration. We ask for this registration information in order to get a better sense of just who our listeners are, and what they find valuable in our programming. But don't worry -- we promise that we'll never give out any of this info to anyone else. At all. Period. We won't share it. We won't sell it. It is used solely by the staff of Science Friday, and we're the only ones that have access to it. You can view and edit any of this information at any time by visiting the "My User Information" area in the Listener Lounge.

In order to use the mailing lists, you'll need to give us a working e-mail address. We will not share that address with anyone, for any reason, without asking you first. We promise.

Any messages you post in the message boards on www.sciencefriday.com are public. Any information in them is available to all other site visitors.

In the "Listener Lounge" area, we allow members to create a public profile which is linked to messages posted on the sciencefriday.com message boards. Creating a profile is completely optional. However, please be aware that any information you do post to your public profile is on view to all site visitors. (That's quite different from the information kept in "My User Information," which is completely confidential.) You can view and edit, or delete any of this information at any time by going to "Edit My Public Profile" in the Listener Lounge.

We do use cookies (small identifying text files that reside on your computer) in some parts of our site. We use these cookies to help remember your preferences from visit to visit and to allow certain site features such as polls, calendars, and message boards to function more efficiently. We do not use the cookies to track your viewing habits on our site.
