With a 31-billion dollar budget in 2010, the National Institutes of Health is the world's largest funder of basic medical research. In this segment, Ira talks with Francis Collins, incoming director of the National Institutes of Health, about NIH research priorities for the years ahead.

Earlier, Collins led the National Human Genome Research Institute, helping to guide the Human Genome Project to completion. He was unanimously confirmed as NIH director by the US Senate in early August.
