Sylvia Earle: 'The World Is Blue' (broadcast Friday, November 6th, 2009)
In this segment, Ira talks with marine scientist Sylvia Earle about the state of the world's oceans, and what actions need to be taken to protect them from catastrophic damage. Earle, a National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence, is the author of the new book 'The World Is Blue: How Our Fate and the Ocean's Are One.' Earle argues that action must be taken now against overfishing, loss of coral ecosystems, and ocean pollution in order to prevent a global environmental crisis that affects life far beyond the ocean's shores.
