Job: Manager Of Impact Strategy

We're looking for an outgoing, analytical, and inquisitive ​Manager of Impact Strategy​ to join our team.

At Science Friday, we’ve spent 28 years exploring everything from the outer reaches of space to the tiniest microbes in our bodies. We’re great at broadcasting science. And we’ve always been digital innovators—we created ​the first podcast in public media and we streamed a radio show online way back in 1993. But we’re so much more than a radio show, and we’re looking for an outgoing, analytical, and inquisitive ​Manager of Impact Strategy​ ​to ​integrate formative and summative approaches to measurement and impact evaluation at Science Friday​.

As a member of our Education team, the ​Manager of Impact Strategy​ will lead multiple efforts across Science Friday’s various programs, content streams, and event series to better understand how our programming fulfills Science Friday’s goal to increase the public’s access and interest in science and scientific information. Working collaboratively across all production teams, the Manager of Impact Strategy will provide support as they articulate meaningful and measurable audience objectives related to science and math literacy, engagement, behavioral and attitudinal shifts, awareness and learning. The Manager of Impact Strategy will work with target teams to integrate formative and summative approaches to measurement and evaluation into Science Friday’s various activities in the service of our organizational objectives, and will be excited to experiment with new tools in audience research to meet those needs. Participation in program development, grant writing, and “sharing out” of lessons learned is expected.

The ideal candidate will have an openness to integrating experimental approaches in our work to push the bounds of practice and knowledge in informal STEM learning and journalism. Exceptional candidates will be natural storytellers with a deep commitment to sharing information with a broader community of practice through partnership development and publication.

Responsibilities

  • Work with producers and staff to create appropriate tools for understanding audience engagement, learning, activation, attitude change, and knowledge-sharing
  • Co-design and manage multiple research and evaluation projects across radio, digital, education, video, education, and development teams to advance our work and our mission
  • Interface with external evaluators and research collaborators to build an informal community of practice, advance research projects and evaluate novel engagement strategies
  • Manage and analyze relevant audience and platform-specific data, in accordance with general privacy and IRB guidelines where appropriate, so that information can be easily drawn upon for future decision-making
  • Create data visualizations to communicate findings that are easily interpreted by laypersons
  • Report findings in an accessible manner to relevant stakeholders, including but not limited to funders, staff, donors, board members, media partners, research collaborators, trade publications, conference attendees, and a general audience
  • Take initiative to grow professionally alongside relevant fields (e.g., media studies, non-profit strategy, informal learning)
  • Author and/or co-author case studies, white papers, impact reports, research studies, and other related materials
  • Represent Science Friday at national conferences, meetings, and symposia
  • Assist with data analysis in grant reports
  • Conduct staff trainings in analytics and impact measurement
  • Work closely with engagement producer, who uses data insights to drive engagement activities for existing and new audiences

Qualifications

  • Experience in non-profit, community-based, or academic environments conducting formative and summative program evaluations or applied research
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods: Survey design, focus group/interview guide development, data collection, management and analysis
  • Exceptional analytical skills and experience in conducting descriptive and inferential statistical analysis of quantitative data and analysis of qualitative data
  • Strong ability to synthesize multiple sources of mixed-method data into reports for a wide range of audiences
  • Strong ability to translate data into practical, actionable insights and recommendations for program managers
  • Outstanding communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work both independently and across multiple departments/functions
  • An enthusiasm for making pertinent technical or academic information accessible and relevant to stakeholders to advance the work as a whole team
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience with statistical data analysis software and/or advanced Excel skills, including analytic functions, and use of relevant software (i.e. Redcap, Qualtrix, R, SAS, SPSS)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, comfort in interviewing and focus group contexts
