

Bruce H. Dobkin, MD is the Distinguished Professor of Clinical Neurology at the University of California Los Angeles’ Geffen School of Medicine. He graduated from Hamilton College and from Temple University’s Katz School of Medicine. He founded the Neurologic Rehabilitation and Research Program at UCLA. He published 3 single-authored books, including The Clinical Science of Neurologic Rehabilitation (Oxford Press) and Brain Matters, Stories of a Neurologist and his Patients (Crown Publ). He was continuously funded for clinical research by the National Institutes of Health and national societies and foundations for over 25 years. He wrote 40 textbook chapters and over 160 clinical research and review articles related to the neurorehabilitation of persons after debilitating stroke, brain injury or spinal cord injury, as well as clinical trials to enhance walking and functional use of a weakened upper extremity, brain imaging during recovery, wearable sensors to monitor recovery, and tele-rehabilitation. He has been editor-in-chief of a scientific journal and on the editorial boards of 6 other journals. He received 11 awards from universities, foundations, and national and international societies including the Royal College of Physicians for contributions to his field.
