Countering Memory Loss With Cocoa Compounds

8:07 minutes

Researchers at Columbia University Medical Center may have found a causal link between a specific region of the brain called the dentate gyrus and age-related memory loss. In a study published in Nature Neuroscience, and funded in part by Mars, Inc., participants received a diet either high or low in cocoa flavanols. Scott Small, senior author of the study, discusses the results of the experiment and how dietary interventions might be used to counteract age-related memory decline.
