Doug Carlston joins the Science Friday Board of Directors, bringing a lifelong commitment to science, education, and public media. A Harvard College and Harvard Law graduate, Carlston initially practiced law before pivoting to tech in 1980, when he co-founded and led Brøderbund Software, Inc., a pioneering educational technology and software company, for nearly twenty years.

Following Brøderbund’s sale, Carlston dedicated his leadership to advancing public media, science communication, and global education. He is the author of five books and has served on numerous prominent media and research boards. Notably, he chaired the boards of Public Radio International and Aspen Public Radio, and served on the Boards of BELO, the Santa Fe Institute, Internews and on the NOVA Science Visiting Council. His experience guiding public broadcasting organizations and his enduring passion for scientific literacy make him an asset to Science Friday’s mission.
