Dr. Glen D’Souza is an Assistant Professor at Arizona State University, where he studies the hidden social lives of microbes. His lab investigates how bacteria compete, cooperate, and build communities that shape health, the environment, and biotechnology. His group combines microscopy, microfluidics, and single-cell analysis to reveal how tiny interactions between individual cells can scale up to affect entire microbial ecosystems. Before joining ASU, Glen trained as a microbial ecologist and systems microbiologist, studying how microbes survive, adapt, and interact in complex environments.

Swords, cannibalism, poison: inside the world of killer microbes
Some microbe species have evolved to stab, bomb, cannibalize, or poison each other. Can we harness their weapons for good?
