The SciFri Book Club Talks ‘The Soul of a New Machine’

25:23 minutes

After three weeks of debugging in the dingy basement of the Data General Corporation, the SciFri Book Club regroups to discuss Tracy Kidder’s 1981 true-tech tale, The Soul of a New Machine. The book—which won the Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award when it came out in 1981—tells the story of a small band of computer engineers rushing to create a new 32-bit minicomputer to compete with their corporate rivals, Digital Equipment Corporation. How have the tech biz and engineering changed since Soul? Veteran technology writer Steven Levy and Silicon Valley engineering executive Jocelyn Goldfein weigh in, when the SciFri Book Club talks The Soul of a New Machine.
On August 24th, author Tracy Kidder joined the SciFri Book Club LIVE at Google HQ in NYC to discuss The Soul of a New Machine. Listen in on the discussion:
