February Book Club Pick: ‘Gorillas in the Mist’

Dian Fossey’s memoir of her work with the gorillas is next on our reading list.

Dian Fossey graduated from San José State College in 1954, with a degree in occupational therapy, according to the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. Nine years later she visited Africa, where she had her first encounter with mountain gorillas.

Fossey later wrote that she believed she would someday return to Africa to study the gorillas of the mountains.

She did, of course, return. And in 1983, she published Gorillas In the Mist, her account of the years she spent studying gorillas in the field. A New York Times review called the book “a monument to scientific devotion.” And that’s why it’s our book club pick for February.

Get your copy and get reading. The SciFri Book Club meets again on February 22nd, 2013 from 3:30-4:00 p.m. ET.
