Photographer Colin Legg makes time-lapse movies of celestial scenes. This week, he was shooting an aurora in southern Tasmania, Australia; last month, he captured the total solar eclipse in northern Queensland. What is involved in photographing the night sky? Legg shares tips, and describes some of the challenges of landscape astrophotography — from babysitting cameras for days and nights on end to running electronics off the grid.
